Halloween @ BOA

Dj Bliss is one of Montreal's most fervent supporters of the breaks genre. Inspired by djs such as Afrika Bambaataa, Krafty Kuts, Dj Czech & Coldcut, Bliss's approach to the breaks genre has remained resolutely eclectic and far reaching. A devout record digger, he has literally spent thousands of hours playing, researching and collecting breakbeat music over the years and currently owns Montreal's largest and most extensive breaks collection.

His weekly breaks events have been running for 7 years now, alongside a constant slew of gigs all over the city. He has developed his own style of breaks that strives to remain unclassifiable and unpredictable, constantly exploring the many subgenres of breakbeat music, from the classics to the newest & the rarest.

Starting in 1999, Bliss co-founded The Grill with Dj T'cha. Not only does the Grill remain the most successful breaks night in Montreal's history, it was also the first night of its kind in Montreal. Created to fill the void in a city where breaks were severely lacking, its success not only popularized breaks but also paved the way for other upcoming breaks djs such as the Broken Crew.

Not content with being the first night to introduce Montrealers to the nu skool breaks sound, T'cha and Bliss decided that a breaks night should cover the full spectrum of breakbeat related music. A typical night at the Grill would feature the latest in nu skool, as well as BBoy Breaks, original funk, rock & baggy breaks, latin breaks, broken beat, 2 step, downtempo, hip house & hip hop breaks, electro funk & idm to name a few.

Over its 4 years of existence, the Grill not only pioneered the concept of guest djs, it also was the first clubnight to introduce international breakbeat superstars in an intimate setting and at an affordable cost. Its overwhelming success earned it accolades both locally and from all over the globe with British breakbeat superstars like Dj Scissorkicks picking it as the setting for his North American mix cd recording.

From the Grill, Bliss went on to create Apesh!t, a weekly breaks night similar to the Grill but also with an added focus on Electro funk. It is also the only Electro funk weekly in Montreals history.

Also in 2004, Bliss founded Brunch in Breaks which has been running for 2 years now. Its remains Montreals only downtempo breaks weekly and for a time was Montreals only breaks weekly.
